SKIP SIZES & COSTS

Once you’ve decided upon hiring a skip you will need to then figure out how large you will need the skip to be, and what your budget is for the hiring cost. Of course it depends on the job you have planned, and whether you will have any bulky or strange items for disposal. If you are undertaking a large project which is scheduled to go on for some months, it may be worth organising several skip deliveries and collections.

Most skip-hire companies have an assortment of sizes available for hire, though it does depend on where you are located – some of the large skip-hire companies keep a smaller range of skips in the more far-flung areas, and a better assortment in built-up locations. In general, skips come in 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 cubic yard sizes. The smallest – the ‘mini skip’ – is suited to small jobs around the house and garden, and it is recommended that if you are undertaking a kitchen or bathroom refit that you use a 4 cubic yard (midi skip) or 6 cubic yard skip. Large or lengthy jobs should necessitate the use of an 8, 10 or 12 cubic yard skip. These can contain bulky or unusual items such as long planks of wood or strips of metal. For commercial or industrial skip hire, it is worth considering a roll on-off container, which can hold between 20 and 40 cubic yards.
